Traditional Jewellery
Gold, silver and pearls as social currency
A pavilion on the history and practice of Emirati adornment, displaying ornaments in precious metal, stones and pearls whose forms echo the country's marine, desert and mountain environments. Its centrepiece is a remarkable object with a story: a traditional bridal jewellery set first worn by the late Fatma Baqer and then lent by her and her family to more than 2,000 brides for their own wedding days — a single set that quietly carried the weddings of a community across generations. The house shows how jewellery functioned as wealth, ceremony and identity, and runs jewellery-making and henna workshops alongside the displays.
