Why this gallery matters
Exhibo editorial
Maddox Gallery built its reputation in London on a specific proposition: blue-chip contemporary art — Banksy, Hockney, Warhol, Basquiat, Kusama, Hirst — presented with the kind of personal service that makes collectors feel they are being advised rather than sold to. The gallery has spaces in Mayfair, Notting Hill and Fitzrovia. Dubai was the logical next step, in the words of Co-Founder Nick Sharp: "It's where our collectors already are." The Dubai presence is different from the London model — a private, appointment-only space on the fifth floor of Burj Daman in DIFC, designed for tailored one-on-one viewings rather than open exhibition programming. Minimalist architecture, natural textures, no walk-in traffic. Art advisory as much as gallery — which in DIFC, where the clientele works in finance and approaches art the way it approaches any serious investment, is a considered position rather than a limitation.
