The Glass House
A greenhouse of the Quran's 29 plants, kept alive by smart climate control
The Glass House is a climate-controlled greenhouse holding the 29 plant species named in the Quran and the Sunnah that need a managed environment to grow in Dubai's desert climate — among them olive, fig, pomegranate, banana, wheat, ginger and lemongrass. Behind its calm interior sits a genuinely sophisticated system: a smart building-management setup programmed to the specific temperature, humidity, irrigation and misting needs of each species, drawing on high-efficiency climate control and connected sensors. Bilingual Arabic–English signage pairs every plant with its Quranic reference and its practical, medicinal and ecological significance, and a spiral ramp leads up to an observation deck looking out over the greenery. A small shop sells seeds and saplings to take home. The result is a space that works as botany, scripture and engineering at once — a living index of the Quran's flora, kept alive by technology designed expressly for it.
