"Window 1" and "Window 2"

About the work

A diptych made by hand — needle, thread, fabric. Two windows: the format is architectural, the medium is domestic. In Pugacheva's practice, the window recurs as a threshold between the known and the new, between the place you came from and the place you're trying to understand. Hand embroidery slows everything down — each stitch is a decision, the work builds over time in a way that paint on canvas doesn't require. There is something deliberate about choosing this medium for a subject about looking out.
